Writing Cursed
As I begin the revision of this YA retelling of the Cassandra myth – working title Cursed- I’ll keep a record of changes, ideas, frustrations and the history that’s been useful to me as I write. I can say I now know 300% more about the Luwians in Bronze Age Anatolia now, which is not saying much since I only discovered them a few months ago.Not so ironically, this relates to one of my themes in the novel: who gets to write the history of an event? Who decides what’s remembered?
What Homer called “Troy” was probably called “Wilusa.” So much of the history is just being rediscovered now. It’s an exciting time to stumble upon all of this, and I’ll talk about that here.
